Expert's note on the series of headdresses presented at this sale:
''In view of the great complexity of the headdresses, tiaras, breastplates and various body decorations used today and in the past in Tibet, Ladakh or Bhutan, and their use, which differs from region to region for the same type of headdress, we have chosen to simplify by using ''descriptive'' terms which do not necessarily correspond to a uniform reality. It's also important to bear in mind that these objects have always been transformed or worn according to fashion and usage. There is therefore no guarantee that these headdresses were used by specific ethnic groups or rituals. The fact remains that these pieces come from the Himalayan region and were brought back in the 20th century.
