Five-sided tiara in silk and braided silk brocade, leather a - Lot 366
Five-sided tiara in silk and braided silk brocade, leather and wool, mounted with numerous cabochons and elements of carnelian, coral, turquoise, black stone, freshwater pearls and seeds. A ga'u-shaped element mounted on the front. Some damaged stones. Tibet, early 20th century. Height: 23 cm. A family tradition, this headdress was brought directly from Ladakh in the 1970s. Opinions differ as to the use of this headdress: woman-oracle headdress or ceremonial headdress, or even lama tiara. In any case, its shape derives from the costume worn by Ladakhi mediums.
