VEUVE P. SORMANI FILS Dressing table in rosewood veneer with ebony frame and ivory fillets embellished with fine ivory marquetry of ribbons, garlands and interlacing flowers. The rectangular top opens to a flap revealing a mirror. Opens to a drawer in front. It stands on four tapered, fluted legs joined by an H-shaped brace, decorated with pearl and ivory fillets. The lock is signed Veuve P. Sormani Fils, 10 rue Charlot, Paris. Height: 74cm; Width: 64.5cm; Depth: 44.5 cm (A few small accidents and missing pieces, veneer lifted in some places) Paul Sormani was a famous Parisian cabinetmaker who practiced from 1847 to 1877, when his widow continued the business. Specializing in reproductions and interpretations of Louis XV and Louis XVI furniture of the highest quality, he won several medals at the Universal Exhibitions.
