Pierre FERRENBACH (Born 1938) Photographic films mounted on dibon board, framed 187 x 71cm Artist's statement: Traditionally, a photograph deals with a subject: memories, landscapes, characters, street scenes, or whatever. My photographs have no subject. Or rather, their only subject is light, of a very precise wavelength chosen with care, sometimes visible, sometimes invisible. Each shot is taken hundreds of times, in absolutely identical, repetitive series, just as a machine would do. After development, the strips of film are glued rigorously and in parallel to a panel, horizontally, vertically or at an angle. These panels, sometimes assembled geometrically, make up the final work.

In tribute to Pierre FERRENBACH

This is the sale of the collection of Mr. Pierre Ferrenbach, a great art lover and artist himself, who was very close to the founders of the Galerie Jade in Colmar, as well as to Jacques Damase, publisher of Sonia Delaunay for the last 15 years of his life. He also edited many other major twentieth-century artists.

Mr. Ferrenbach was also published by Jacques Damase for his photographs taken during his many trips to the Arctic and Sahara.

We have also managed to recover some of his books, in which the photographs we are offering for sale are illustrated.

Around ten photographs will be presented for sale.

As well as other works created by Mr. Ferrenbach himself, consisting of strips of film, exhibited at Art Basel alongside other artists represented by Galerie Jade.

As a result of his relationship with Galerie Jade, Pierre Ferrenbach has developed a definite taste for contemporary and avant-garde art. He told me that he learned everything he needed to know from Edouard Jaeglé and Karine Graff, who advised him on building up his collection.

On their advice, he acquired and then resold several oil paintings by Pierre Soulages and Robert Delaunay.

Two works will be presented at Drouot (I don't have the photographs yet, I'll have them on Friday) and one will be sold by designation:

Also sold by prior arrangement is a monumental work by Anne and Patrick Poirier, of which I enclose a photo and the preparatory drawings for the project, which will be given to the buyer.
