Gaston LAFFITTE (Born 1866) Rare and important chased silver-plated bronze belt buckle with iris motif and interlacing embellished with two cabochon amethysts. Signed on the reverse "G. LAFFITTE" and marked "SALON 1901", indicating that this jewelry was exhibited at the 1901 Salon. Circa 1880/890. Gross weight : 170gr. Dimensions : 17 x 7.5cm Auctioneer Lorenza VITALIS comments: "This belt buckle could easily become a brooch, becoming a veritable work of art reinvented for our times. Pinned on the the lapel of a jacket, it would become the centerpiece of your silhouette". Reference: This belt buckle model is reproduced in Roberta WADELL's 1904 book "Art et décoration", a photo of which is shown here. We know that Gaston LAFFITTE took the punch in 1896. A great jewelry designer, whose signed creations are rare on the art market, he exhibited jewelry in collaboration with Léopold LACLOCHE at the 1904 Paris Salon. He also wrote a book entitled Document du bijou Art Moderne.
