Flemish cabinet in ebony, blackened wood, rosewood and polyc - Lot 192
Flemish cabinet in ebony, blackened wood, rosewood and polychrome marble and hardstone inlays, with an architectural front. The cabinet is decorated with a rich "Commesso" marquetry of Florentine and other hard stones. The front features a large division of small drawers and a central leaf. The whole is adorned with small pietra dura paintings of birds, flowers and fruit. Each drawer is encircled by an ebony molding and a frame simulating tortoiseshell. The central leaf is framed by two small columns and topped by an arched pediment. It houses a miniature theater with a checkerboard floor. The whole rests on an eight-columned base joined by a brace. Rich ornamentation of chased and gilded bronzes: masks, statuettes, capitals. Partly XVIIᵉ, XIXᵉ and later work. Height: 173 cm; Width: 131 cm; Depth: 44 cm (Significant restorations, wear and accidents) The extensive restorations mentioned in the description indicate substantial alterations to the furniture making period dating and warranty impossible.
