Full red morocco with the arms of the city of Paris. Unique edition of this superb folio-sized celebration book, dedicated to the marriage by proxy of Elisabeth de France, eldest daughter of Louis XV, then aged 12, and Philippe de Bourbon, infant of Spain, second son of Philippe V of Spain, on August 26, 1739. It was one of the most sumptuous parties given in Paris in the 18th century. This work of luxury was dressed more or less sumptuously. The sovereign and the princes of his family received copies covered with morocco decorated with lace, the ministers with less richly decorated morocco and the simple bishops with volumes modestly bound in calfskin, all bearing however in the center of the plates the arms of the city which had financed the enterprise. Our copy is preserved in a sumptuous period binding executed in full red morocco, with the arms of the city of Paris. Spine with fleur-de-lis and title. Complete with the 13 plates, 8 on double page and 5 full page, engraved by Blondel (with a printing error: plate VI is noted VII and plate VII is noted VIII). The plates engraved by J.-Fr. Blondel represent: the geometrical plan of the part of the Seine where the feast was given; the temple of Hymen, decoration of the fireworks placed on the open ground of the Pont-Neuf; geometrical elevation of the throne built for Their Majesties to see the feast, executed on the drawings of Gabriel; the plan and the geometrical elevation of the music room raised in the middle of the river between the Pont-Neuf and the Pont-Royal; the illuminated boats. Plate 8 gives the geometrical elevation of the riverside terrace where the tents for Their Majesties' suite were located. Plate 9 gives us a general view of this festival on the Seine with all its decorations, illuminations and fireworks. The last plates show us the ball at the Hôtel de ville on the night of August 30-31, with plans and sections. CONDITION : Good copy, a few accidents: lower corners corroded, the leather split on 5 cm at the level of the cut of the second plate. Rubbing of use to the headpieces, jaws slightly cracked. Angular staining on second board. Interior: in good condition, fairly clean laid paper, slight spotting and light yellowing. Small spotting in the upper margin of plates 2, 3, 7, 8 and 9, without affecting the illustration.
